One-Week Orientation Programme in

SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

for Research Scholars and Teachers belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes

Objective of the course

The Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID), New Delhi, is organising a One-Week Orientation Programme for research scholars and teachers from universities and colleges belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) from 6th to 11th March, 2017. The Programme is sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi under special component plan for SC/ST in social sciences.

The objective of the Programme is to expose participating scholars to recent developments and contemporary issues of the Indian economy and familiarize relevant methodology, to undertake research on related topics in multi-disciplinary in nature that seeks to:

  1. discuss conceptual issues on emerging areas of social science research;
  2. improve skills and the ability to undertake research on those issues using appropriate data, statistical tools and estimation techniques; and
  3. discuss techniques of dissemination, how to write and publish research paper, project proposals, project reports and design of questionnaire etc.

The week-long programme will consists of lectures by eminent academicians, group discussions besides hands-on experience with datasets using various techniques.

Target Group and Selection Process

Young social science researchers and teachers from colleges, universities and research institutes belonging to any of the aforementioned social groups interested in pursuing research related to developmental issues will constitute the target group of this programme. A batch of 30–35 participants will be selected on all-India basis from various disciplines of social sciences. Outstation participants will be provided free boarding and lodging facility in the campus hostel on twin-sharing basis. To and fro Sleeper Class Train fare by the shortest route will be reimbursed to the selected candidates from place of study/work.

Interested candidates participating in the programme may send their applications (downloadable from ISID website: http://isid.org.in) in prescribed format along with a write-up of about 500 words on their area of research interest to the Programme Co-ordinator through e-mail to trainprog@isid.org.in on or before February 17, 2017.
