One-Week Orientation Programme on


for Research Scholars and Teachers
belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes

Objective of the course

The Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID), New Delhi, is organising a One-Week Orientation Programme for research scholars and teachers belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) from November 21 to 26, 2016. The programme is sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.

The programme is multi-disciplinary in nature that seeks to:

  1. refresh their theoretical knowledge and help identify contemporary issues and debates relating to specific research areas, including strategies for Social Inclusion and Economic Development;
  2. develop skills and the ability to undertake research on those issues using appropriate data and methodologies (quantitative and qualitative); and,
  3. improve research capacity on how to write and publish research paper, project proposals and to prepare project reports.

The week-long programme will consist of lectures, group discussions, exposure to databases, research methods and hands-on exercises with relevant data sets. There will be special lectures by reputed academicians on issues relating to skill development, education, health, industry & employment, poverty and inequality, etc., with specific focus on strategies for social inclusion and economic development.

Target Group and Selection Process

Young social science researchers and teachers from colleges, universities and research institutes belonging to any of the aforementioned social groups interested in pursuing research related to developmental issues will constitute the target audience of this programme. A batch of 25–30 participants will be selected at all-India level, based on suitability. Participants will get free boarding and lodging facility in the campus hostel on twin-sharing basis. To and fro sleeper class train fare by the shortest route will be reimbursed.

Interested candidates may send their applications (downloadable from ISID website: http://isid.org.in) in the prescribed format along with a write-up of about 500 words on their area of research interest through e-mail to trainprog@isid.org.in on or before October 21, 2016.
